The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (which runs the Oscars) has just announced new rules that will take effect for the 2027 ceremony (the 99th Oscars), explicitly reserving acting and screenwriting awards for “human‑created work”.
What the new rules say:
AI actors are not eligible: Only roles “demonstrably performed by humans” and properly credited in a film’s legal billing, with the performer’s consent, can be nominated or win in acting categories.
